Just another in a long list --- Matthew, Gateway, Peterborough Kawartha, Thornhill Green, North End Halifax, Bridlewood .....
You got to know that CHF (and related or newly-created organizations) will be all over this one to protect the "integrity" of the co-op movement. They will bleat how only they are the ones capable of repairing the "shortcomings" all the while never acknowledging that the system is essentially rife with possibility of incompetence of BODs, bad property management and all the things outlined in detail in this blog.
That comment from the co-op resident who objected to "outsiders" was actually quite pathetic.
I tried finding out about Sand Hills Co-op on CHF's web site, but didn't come up with anything. The dysfunction in this co-op probably went on for years and won't necessarily be remedied by a 2-yr. takeover. I would really like to know the back story to this story.
I may be several steps ahead of CHF with my comments on news articles posted in social media that can be also be viewed at twitter.com and facebook.com! etc...
Klippensteins is well-known for acting for CHF and Co-op sector. Klippernstein and partner Basil Alexander were part of team that fought in Bridlewood and Matthew Co-op cases.
Notice how Klippenstein managed to squeeze in reference to co-op "democracy."
It was a strategic move by the Region of Waterloo as a risk based approach to remove the board of directors and implement a "workout plan" for Sand Hills co-op. CHF support workout plans for its member co-ops.
CHF's legal posturing to re-install the board of directors sends a signal to its member co-ops that they are willing to spend or should I say, **waste money** by continuing to pander.
If this matter winds up in Court, I'll predict that the Court makes a ruling in favor of the Region of Waterloo.
The debacle that involves North End United co-op and CHF is a revealing read in the 54-page Report prepared by Grant Thornton LLP.
If former BOD goes thru with judicial review app to Court, all the relevant info about their actions, incompetence, etc will be brought out in the open. Whether they're bluffing, trying to force Region's hand or whatever, it still is an extremely risky and ill-advised strategy.
I lived in housing co-ops for approximately 30 years and for many years was an active volunteer on the Maintenance Committee.
I'm writing this blog because there is very little information on the web about dysfunctional co-ops. This blog will give an overview of what is transpiring in our co-op and its consequences, particularly as it pertains to vulnerable subsidized members. I intersperse my account of co-op living with snippets of my life's experiences outside of the co-op realm.
