A Montreal Story

The answer does not necessarily lie in hiring Property Management - it's oversight on a higher level that is required.

  1. Oversight starts with members themselves being engaged with how their co-op is run. If they slink in the shadows, decide they get benefits from way things are constituted and will not (for whatever reason) ask tough questions and be relentless, little will change.

Courts hate getting involved in internal co-op matters. In Ontario, FSCO will likewise beg off involvement barring serious evidence of fraud.

Being a caring co-op member who wants things done things right --- legally and ethically --- often feels trapped in maze with all roads leading to dead ends. Or for another rodent analogy --- feeling like a hamster on a wheel, continuously moving but not really getting anywhere.
